Treat the complete system as evidence

A familiar mark on one component does not automatically establish that the proposed system and connection method meet the applicable requirement. Record the exact models, configuration, listing or certification evidence, and installation instructions.

The home matters too

Existing wiring, circuit loading, receptacle condition, grounding, protection devices, cable routing, and weather exposure cannot be inferred from the kit description. Resolve uncertainty with the utility, authority having jurisdiction, property owner, or qualified professional as appropriate.

Grid loss is a separate condition

A grid-connected system should not be assumed to power the home during an outage. Backup operation requires equipment and a design that specifically supports it.

What to ask an electrician

Bring the exact equipment instructions and ask whether the proposed circuit, receptacle, protection devices, cable route, and connection method are suitable. Request a written scope and price for any required work. A photo or an online questionnaire cannot establish the condition of hidden wiring.

What to ask the seller

Request the certifying laboratory, record number, exact models covered, U.S. instructions, and any conditions on output or installation. If you cannot match the records to the kit, ask the manufacturer or certifier to resolve it before buying. Missing evidence means unverified; it does not prove certification is absent.

Do not improvise the connection

Use the equipment’s specified connection and mounting method. Have unresolved electrical or structural questions assessed before connecting equipment. Do not assume adapters, extension cords, a weather cover, or a lower wattage rating make an otherwise unsuitable setup acceptable.
